What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation is enhancing the size of the breast using silicone implant.

Why do patient wants to do this surgery?

The shape and volume of the breasts altered because of the childbirth or weight loss or due to aging process. Women, wishing to improve their breast size or have suffered changes in appearance, can achieve it with breast augmentation.

Infection, seroma, capsular contracture, implant rippling, Implant malposition are the complications may occur following breast augmentation using silicone implant.

What are the types of breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation may be done using silicone implant or by using fat grafting in to the breast depending upon the patients preference.

What is done in breast augmentation using silicone implant?

Surgery is done under general anaesthesia. It takes 1 ½ hours to 2 hours to complete the surgery. An incision made in the lower aspect in the natural crease of the breast, Pocket is created in the subglandular or submuscular or in dual plane. Silicone implant is introduced in the pocket and the wound is sutured.

What are the types of implant?

Depending upon the content there are two types- silicone and saline implants. Depending on the shape it may be spherical or tear drop. Depending upon the surface it may be smooth or textured.

How long it will take to show good results?

Since the skin over the breast is too tight after augmentation, it looks like more prominent in the upper part of breast. It takes 6 to 8 weeks for the relaxation of skin and the breast attain the natural curve.

Is the scar visible postoperatively?

Since the scar is in the natural crease of the breast ( lower aspect of breast) the scar will not be visible.

What is the postoperative care should be taken ?

Patient has to wear tight brassier for 6 to 8 weeks and advised to avoid strenuous activity

How many days the patient has to stay in the hospital?

It is a day care surgery. Patient discharged in the evening on the day of surgery.
