Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty Or "Tummy Tuck" Is A Cosmetic Surgery Procedure Used To Make The Abdomen Thinner And More Firm.

What is abdominoplasty ?

Abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck” is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to make the abdomen thinner and more firm. The surgery involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen in order to tighten the muscle and fascia of the abdominal wall. It is a major surgical procedure.

Tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, removes excess fat and skin and, in most cases, restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer.

What are all the types of abdominoplasty?

What is abdominoplasty ?

A full tummy tuck requires a horizontally-oriented incision in the area between the pubic hairline and umbilicus.

The shape and length of the incision will be determined by the amount of excess skin in the lower abdomen. Once the abdominal skin is lifted, the underlying weakened abdominal muscles are tightened.

A second incision around the navel may be necessary to remove excess skin in the upper part of the abdomen.

The upper abdominal skin is pulled down like a window shade. The excess skin in the upper abdominal flap is trimmed and the remaining skin is sutured together. A new opening for the belly button is created. The belly button is popped through to the surface and sutured into position.

Miniabdominoplasty

A mini abdominoplasty is limited to supra-pubic skin removal (skin above the pubic area) and fat removal using liposuction

What is miniabdominoplasty?

A mini abdominoplasty is limited to supra-pubic skin removal (skin above the pubic area) and fat removal using liposuction. The patient must have minimal to moderate skin redundancy, a small amount of abdominal fat, and minor to moderate muscle flaccidity. The surgeon aspirates the abdominal fat, removes the supra-pubic skin redundancy, and in cases of muscle flaccidity, the medial part of the abdominal skin is removed. Finally the skin is sutured with the umbilicus preserved.

What is lipoabdominoplasty?

The lipoabdominoplasty is a combination of a Tummy Tuck and liposuction to the abdominal region. The ideal patient has not only excess skin to the abdominal region, but also has some unwanted fatty volume. This allows us to remove excess fatty tissue from the mid-section via liposuction, as well as remove excess skin. By combining both procedures, we can provide the patient with optimal results.

Why should the patient undergo this procedure?

A flabby abdomen is caused not only by the accumulation of fat, but also by the poor elasticity of the skin, excess skin, and the stretching of the inner girdle of connective tissue (abdominal fascia) and abdominal muscles that extends from the ribs to the pubic bone. This inner girdle, which holds the internal organs in place, is responsible for the tone and appearance of the abdomen.

The abdomen is more likely to protrude after your abdominal fascia has been stretched during pregnancy or significant changes in weight. A tummy tuck can remove loose, excess skin and fat, and tighten weak fascia. A tummy tuck can also remove stretch marks and excess skin in the lower abdomen below the bellybutton. However, a tummy tuck won’t correct stretch marks outside of this area.

Who is the right candidate to undergo abdominoplasty procedure?

The best candidate for abdominoplasty is still a patient with plenty of loose skin, rectus muscle diastasis and without too much fat in the local area.

Who Should Not Consider a Tummy Tuck?

A woman who plans to get pregnant, then they may want to postpone a tummy tuck until completing the child birth. During surgery, your vertical muscles are tightened, and future pregnancies can separate those muscles.

If the person is planning for weight loss, then a tummy tuck also is not for them. A tummy tuck should be a last resort after you’ve tried everything else. It should not be used as an alternative to weight loss.

What is the expected outcome of this procedure ?

The final results of tummy tuck surgery may be initially obscured by swelling and inability to stand fully upright until internal healing is complete. Within a week or two, patient should be standing tall and confident in new slimmer profile. Tummy tuck will result in a flatter, firmer abdominal contour that is more proportionate with the patient’s body type and weight.

What is the advantage of this procedure?

Improved Abdominal Tone and Better Posture. After extreme weight loss or multiple pregnancies, stomach muscles can become distended, and diet and exercise alone cannot help. A tummy tuck surgically tightens weak muscles, while removing excess skin and fat, to flatten the abdomen.
